“Madea and Helen: Strength Through Tears” – Extended Conversation at Home
On a quiet evening after the emotional storm, Helen sits on the couch, staring blankly at the wall. Madea enters with her determined stride, swinging her oversized purse and shutting the door with a loud thump.
This extended dialogue shows Madea as a figure who combines humor, wisdom, and unconditional love, turning pain into strength.
Madea: “Lord have mercy, girl! You sittin’ here lookin’ like somebody done stole your last piece of cornbread. Get up! Life ain’t over just ‘cause that fool walked out.”
Helen looks at her with tired eyes, but a faint smile appears.
Helen: “Madea, I don’t even know who I am anymore. He took everything — my house, my pride, my peace.”
Madea: “Peace? Honey, peace don’t come from no man. It comes from Jesus and a good night’s sleep! You better start rememberin’ who you are. You’re Helen McCarter, not Helen the victim.”
Madea sits beside her, pulling out a pack of cookies and a bottle of water from her purse.
Madea: “Now eat somethin’. Cryin’ on an empty stomach just makes you ugly. And you too pretty for that.”
Helen laughs through her tears, while Madea continues in her firm tone.
Madea: “You know what your problem is? You gave that man too much power. You let him think he was the king of your castle. Girl, you the queen! And queens don’t beg — they rebuild.”
Helen listens closely as Madea rises and begins pacing the room.
Madea: “I been through worse, baby. I had men lie, cheat, and steal. But I never let ‘em take my joy. You gotta fight for that. You hear me? Fight!”
Helen slowly stands, her eyes beginning to shine.
Helen: “You really think I can start over?”
Madea: “Think? Girl, you don’t think — you do! You get up tomorrow, you fix your hair, you put on that red dress, and you walk like you own the world. ‘Cause you do!”
Helen hugs Madea, who pushes her away playfully.
Madea: “Alright now, don’t get all mushy. You gon’ mess up my wig.”
Both laugh, and the atmosphere shifts from sorrow to hope. Madea looks at Helen with affection and says:
Madea: “Remember this, baby — pain don’t last forever, but strength does. And you got plenty of that.”
